Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts)GNU(, Nasr al-Din al-Fazzani, welcomed the Chinese Chargé d’Affaires, Liu Jian, at the Minister’s office. Their discussions focused on enhancing tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Top of the agenda was activating and preparing an executive plan for the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Libya and China in 2010.
Minister Fazzani showcased Libya’s rich and diverse tourist attractions, highlighting over 600 destinations ripe for marketing and promotion. Both sides emphasized the importance of a project to enhance Libya’s tourism image, aiming to solidify its position as a distinctive tourist destination for Chinese tourists.
The meeting also addressed the possibility of launching direct flights between Libya and China and simplifying visa procedures for Chinese tourists to facilitate tourism exchange.
Discussions further explored leveraging Libya’s membership in the “Belt and Road Initiative” and collaborating with the Asian Development Bank and the Silk Road Fund to support and develop Libya’s tourism sector.
To strengthen Libyan expertise in tourism, both sides agreed on the importance of funding and supporting training programs in tourism services and guiding, as well as utilizing Chinese expertise in digital transformation and artificial intelligence. A proposal was also put forward to organize specialized training courses in China for Libyan trainers, aiming to transfer knowledge and develop skills within the tourism sector.
