The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed its “deep dismay” at the release of Osama Najim, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on serious charges, including crimes against humanity and war crimes.
In a statement, the Mission confirmed that the arrest warrant issued against Najim includes accusations of murder, torture, rape, and sexual violence, stressing the need to hold him accountable for these crimes.
The Mission called on the Libyan authorities to take immediate measures to arrest Najim and initiate a comprehensive investigation into the charges against him, to ensure full accountability, or to surrender him to the ICC, in accordance with the Security Council resolution
