Mabrouka Toghy Othman, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development marked the reopening of the Mujahid Sheikh Suleiman al-Barouni’s house after its restoration. within the framework of national efforts aimed at preserving cultural and historical heritage of the region, and highlighting national symbols and their roles in shaping cultural identity.
During her speech, the Minister expressed her pride and appreciation for this cultural achievement, stressing that the restoration of Sheikh al-Barouni’s house embodies the commitment of the residents to protecting and preserving their heritage. She added that the Ministry has nominated the poet and Mujahid Suleiman al-Barouni to be included as one of the cultural symbols honored by the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO), in recognition of his significant role.
The opening ceremony included a variety of artistic and cultural performances presented by students, then by the folk arts group, which evoked the spirit of local culture. The event was also decorated with the presentation of traditional dishes of the region, which revived the authentic atmosphere.
Finally, the Minister and the accompanying delegation made a tour inside the old city, where they visited prominent historical landmarks such as the Kabaw Castle, the library of Hajj Saed Al-Barouni, and the historic olive press, which is a testament to the region’s agricultural heritage, in addition to the open theater.
