The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity participated in the virtual ministerial meeting of the African Union Committee concerned with reforming the Security Council, where Libya affirmed its firm position on the need to work towards achieving the aspirations of the African continent in ending what it described as “historical injustice” in its representation in the UN Security Council.
During his speech at the meeting, Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Expatriate Affairs, Imhamed Saeed Zidan, explained that Libya supports efforts aimed at reforming the Security Council in a way that ensures fair representation for the continent. He also stressed the importance of adhering to what is stated in UN General Assembly Resolution 62/557, which stipulates that the reform process should include five basic aspects.
Zidan stressed the need to maintain the unity of the African position during international negotiations as it is considered one of the central issues on the continent’s agenda for years.
