In a successful operation, Tripoli’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) dismantled a counterfeit currency network operating in Al-Mushir market, just steps away from the Central Bank of Libya. This operation came after a citizen reported discovering 5,800 counterfeit US dollars in his possession.
According to the details of the incident, the complainant informed the CID after realizing the money was fake while attempting to sell it at a shop. He stated in his report that he had received the amount from another person in exchange for 5,500 US dollars.
The investigation team immediately launched an inquiry, managing to identify the first suspect who works in a shop in Al-Mashir market. Upon confronting him with the evidence, the suspect confessed to obtaining the money from an unknown person within the market.
Consequently, the necessary legal procedures were taken, the counterfeit money was confiscated, and the suspects were referred to Bab Al-Bahr Police Station to complete the investigation, pending their referral to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further legal action.
