The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Hana Teteh, held an important meeting last Sunday with the Head of the Libyan Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak, and his executive team, in the presence of the Deputy Special Representative, Stephanie Koury.
The meeting centered on the pivotal role played by the Audit Bureau in ensuring the integrity and meticulous oversight of the financial performance of Libya’s state institutions.
During the meeting, Teteh emphasized the unwavering commitment of the United Nations to supporting the independence of the Audit Bureau and ensuring the integrity of its work, stressing the paramount importance of protecting this oversight institution from any potential interferences that could impede its performance of its duties.
She pointed out that the Audit Bureau represents a fundamental pillar in promoting financial transparency and combating corruption in all its forms, which positively reflects on the interests of all Libyan citizens.
For his part, the Head of the Audit Bureau reviewed the significant challenges facing the Bureau’s work under the current circumstances, expressing his deep appreciation for the international support provided to enhance the institution’s oversight capacities and enable it to perform its tasks more effectively.
Shakshak affirmed the continued diligent efforts exerted by the Bureau to monitor public spending in all its aspects and to detect any financial irregularities or violations, thereby ensuring the optimal use of public resources and the protection of public funds.
