The Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, accompanied by the Prime Minister of the Libyan government, Osama Hammad, and a number of senior military leaders, conducted a field visit to the new military city, which is described as the largest of its kind in North Africa.
They were received by the Chief of Staff of the Security Units, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, along with a selection of military commanders, where the inspection tour included various components of the project and the construction phases it had reached.
Modern and Integrated Facilities
This project comes within the framework of a vision of establishing a modern and integrated military environment on Libyan land, eliminating the need to send officers and soldiers abroad to receive specialized military training. The initial idea was merely establishing a group of training camps, only to evolve into the establishment of a model field military city by all standards.
The military city includes a huge sports stadium with a capacity of approximately 20,000 spectators, an integrated residential area considered the largest of its kind in the North African region, spanning 1000 hectares allocated for housing officers, soldiers, and their families, while providing all necessary facilities and services.
A Regional Center for Military Training
During the visit, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar explained that this ambitious project will be ready soon to receive military trainees from various countries, especially from African countries, within advanced and specialized training programs that will be supervised by the competencies and expertise of the Libyan Armed Forces.
This strategic project is being built on 5,467 hectares and includes a military airport, a seaport, and training and administrative facilities built according to the highest international technical standards. The city also includes a huge mosque that can accommodate more than 60,000 worshippers in its interior and exterior spaces.
A Qualitative Leap in Military Capabilities
After the inspection tour, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar expressed his complete satisfaction with the level of achievement in this massive project, praising the efforts of the engineering and technical teams and emphasizing that this new military city represents a strategic leap in developing national capabilities, military training, and institutional discipline. The General Command of the Armed Forces had previously announced that this national project has already entered its final stages.
