During joint discussions held in Kuwait, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, underscored the urgent necessity of unifying Libyan institutions under the umbrella of a single executive authority capable of governing all territories within Libya.
During their meeting, the two leaders addressed a range of shared international and regional concerns, strongly emphasizing their common principles regarding the Libyan issue.
According to a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both sides stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty of the State of Libya, its territorial unity, and integrity, while firmly rejecting all forms of external interference in its internal affairs.
They further emphasized that the Libyan people solely own the political process in Libya, and that the fundamental frameworks for resolving the Libyan crisis lie in the Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skhirat in 2015, the Libyan Constitutional Declaration and its subsequent amendments, and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, all to reach simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections that would end the state of division.
President El-Sisi and Amir Al-Sabah concurred on the necessity of the withdrawal of all foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries from Libyan territory within a clear and defined timeframe. They also affirmed the importance of dissolving armed militias and reunifying Libyan military and security institutions under the command of a single executive authority capable of extending its control over all Libyan lands and representing the entirety of the Libyan people.
