The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Mr. Aguila Saleh, received the French Special Envoy to Libya, Mr. Paul Soler, at his office in Qubba.
This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views and discuss in depth a range of issues related to the future of Libya. Foremost, the emphasis is on the importance of preserving the unity of Libyan territory and its territorial integrity, and ensuring the country’s stability and full sovereignty. The necessity of expediting the creation of suitable conditions for organizing free and fair national elections, including both presidential and legislative elections, as soon as possible, also topped the agenda.
It is noted that Mr. Paul Soler had conducted a series of intensive meetings and discussions with various active political parties in the Libyan arena during September last year, including a meeting with Mr. Aguila Saleh, at that time. In a related context, the French Embassy in Libya affirmed that the French Special Envoy, Mr. Paul Soler, had emphasized during these renewed meetings the priority that France attaches to Libya’s sovereignty and independence. As well as completing the necessary constitutional and legal framework for organizing presidential and parliamentary elections in the shortest possible time, and in full accordance with the aspirations and desires of the Libyan people.
