Libya’s Attorney General’s Office has announced the issuance of detention orders for the head of the National Cancer Control Authority and the director of the National Center for Disease Control, Dr. Haider Al-Sayeh. This legal action follows allegations of legal and administrative violations concerning the procurement of cancer medications.
In an official statement, the Attorney General’s Office clarified that the documented violations involved the supply of quantities of cancer treatment found to be non-compliant with approved technical and health specifications and standards.
Furthermore, investigations revealed irregularities and manipulation in the quantities of these vital medications, a matter that poses a direct and serious threat to the health of patients relying on these treatments and constitutes a clear breach of the laws and regulations governing operations within the sensitive healthcare sector.
This step is part of a series of diligent efforts undertaken by the Attorney General’s Office in Libya to combat all forms of financial and administrative corruption, and to ensure the application of the principle of legal accountability to all those involved in such violations, particularly within vital sectors that directly impact the lives of citizens, with the healthcare sector being a top priority.
Concluding its statement, the Attorney General’s Office firmly affirmed its continued pursuit and prosecution of all those proven to be involved in cases related to the misappropriation of public funds or the dereliction of their assigned professional duties.
