The Tripoli University Student Union has announced its categorical rejection of the decision to resume studies at the university, citing the dangerous security conditions surrounding the campus following the recent armed clashes in the capital and the resulting civilian casualties.
In a statement issued today, Saturday, the union emphasized that the university is located in a direct contact zone, posing a serious threat to students’ lives in the event of renewed tension or the outbreak of any confrontations. It demanded the continuation of the suspension of studies until the end of the week at a minimum.
The statement called on all armed parties to immediately withdraw from the vicinity of the university and to neutralize its campus from any armed conflict, in order to preserve the safety of students and the prestige of the educational institution.
The union stressed that its mission is purely syndical, focused on defending students’ rights and representing them academically. It strongly rejected any attempts to drag its name into political conflicts or attribute false statements to it, reiterating its commitment to complete neutrality in all circumstances, whether in times of peace or crisis.
