On Wednesday, the media centre of the High National Elections Commission hosted an extensive consultative meeting between the Commission’s council and donors of the electoral support project. The meeting was attended by the Commission’s chairperson and members, alongside the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the European Union Ambassador, and representatives from Germany, France, Japan, Britain, Italy, Spain, and Qatar, acting as donor countries through the United Nations Development Fund.
The discussions focused on methods to support electoral operations and the implementation plans developed by the Commission, as well as estimating the material resources and needs required for conducting the electoral process. Attendees also reviewed project plans and evaluated the plan for the first half of 2025, in addition to discussing the latest arrangements for the polling phase and the Commission’s readiness for upcoming entitlements.
Participants commended the significant efforts undertaken by the Commission to ensure the success of the electoral process stages for the 2025 municipal council elections (second group), and its endeavour to facilitate voter access to polling stations in the first half of next August.
It is worth noting that the electoral support project is being implemented under the supervision of the United Nations Development Programme, and aims to raise the Commission’s readiness level and enhance its capacities, enabling it to operate professionally according to approved international standards and principles, and to leverage available capabilities from all parties to ensure the success of the electoral process in Libya.
