Massaad Boulos, President Donald Trump’s adviser for African affairs, underscored the critical necessity of holding presidential elections in Libya.
Boulos explained that organising elections represents the sole path out of the current Libyan crisis, noting that the country’s transitional phase has extended far too long and must be brought to an end. He called for fair, equitable, and transparent elections, so that all parties accept and are satisfied with the outcomes.
For its part, the United States had previously affirmed its commitment to supporting lasting peace in regions affected by prolonged conflict, specifically highlighting its efforts in Libya, the Sahel region, and Sudan.
The United States also stressed that peace and stability are the primary drivers of economic growth and cross-border trade, within the context of its strategic partnership with the African continent.
