The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Libya, Hannah Tetteh, held a consultative meeting with 15 representatives from various areas in the Western Region to discuss the current security situation and progress towards a comprehensive political roadmap.
The discussions, which took place on Monday at the UN Mission’s headquarters, saw participants—including mayors and social figures—underscore the paramount importance of ending the transitional phase. They also stressed the necessity of achieving political progress within a stable and secure environment.
Attendees called for the urgent withdrawal of weapons from the capital, Tripoli, and for empowering official security agencies to assert full control over the city. This measure is intended to provide protection for civilians and ensure the political process can proceed in a suitable and conducive atmosphere.
