The British Embassy in Libya has asserted that, with the upcoming round of municipal elections drawing near, any attempt to obstruct this process constitutes a blatant assault on the democratic rights of the Libyan people.
This statement was made during a meeting between the British Minister of State for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Faulkner Hemshe, in the capital, Tripoli, and the Head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayah. The two parties discussed the role of elections in Libya’s political future, as announced by the British Embassy via its official page on “X.”
The HNEC clarified that the British Minister reaffirmed his government’s full support for the Commission’s efforts and the British Government’s commitment to backing the electoral process as a fundamental pillar for achieving political stability and building legitimate institutions in Libya. He also commended the level of technical and professional preparations undertaken by the Commission to conduct the elections in accordance with international standards.
