The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today, Friday, the arrest of Libyan national Khaled Mohamed Ali Al-Hinsheri in Germany.
The Court has levelled charges against Al-Hinsheri for committing crimes against humanity and war crimes, which formed the basis for issuing a sealed arrest warrant against him.
Al-Hinsheri was a senior official at Mitiga Prison in Tripoli. He was apprehended last Wednesday, acting on a judicial order issued by the Court on July 10th.
In an official statement, the Court declared: “He is suspected of having directly committed, ordered, or supervised crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, torture, rape, and sexual violence, which are alleged to have been perpetrated in Libya from February 2015 to early 2020.”
Al-Hinsheri will remain in the custody of German authorities until relevant legal procedures are finalised, in preparation for his transfer to The Hague to appear before the International Criminal Court.
