A coalition of Libyan journalists, writers, academics, human rights advocates, and civil society activists has issued a joint statement rejecting any formal or informal attempt to resettle Palestinians outside their homeland.
The statement, widely circulated on Facebook by media outlets and public figures, called on Arab governments to take clear and public stances against forced displacement, describing it as a red line that must not be crossed or negotiated. It also urged Arab and international press unions and professional associations to adopt a unified position opposing any plans to relocate Palestinians, and to endorse a media charter that rejects normalization with deceptive narratives promoting so-called “humanitarian solutions” that legitimize displacement.
The signatories emphasized the role of independent journalism in exposing the truth and uncovering schemes disguised as “relief” or “emergency” efforts, which they described as covert attempts to erase the rights of entire populations. They also called for the urgent establishment of an independent national syndicate for Libyan journalists one capable of defending press freedom, regulating the profession, and resisting efforts to manipulate public awareness or use media as a political cover for dangerous agendas.
Raising the slogan “No to Gaza’s displacement… No to turning Libya into a refugee camp!”The statement condemned the forced relocation of Palestinians as a new crime added to a long history of violations against unarmed people. It warned that dragging Libya, already burdened by instability, into such unethical schemes would be an unacceptable exploitation of its circumstances.
The signatories expressed full support for any international or grassroots stance that opposes displacement and affirms the moral and humanitarian right of Palestinians to remain on their land, whether that stance comes from Arab, European, or African actors.
