In a phone call on Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty and Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani underscored the urgent need to accelerate Libya’s stalled political process. The two officials discussed regional developments, with Libya topping the agenda.
Both ministers emphasized that holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible remains the only viable path toward a comprehensive political settlement and lasting stability in Libya.
They also reiterated the importance of dismantling armed militias and ensuring the full withdrawal of foreign forces, mercenaries, and non-state fighters from Libyan territory. Such steps, they agreed, are essential to restoring security and curbing irregular migration across Libya’s Mediterranean coastline.
