The Egyptian military carried out an airdrop of humanitarian aid over Gaza on Wednesday, deploying four transport aircraft to reach besieged areas cut off from ground access.
Military spokesperson Brigadier General Gharib Abdel Hafez said in a statement on his official Facebook page that the operation followed President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s directive to provide full support to the Palestinian people in facing their current ordeal. The move was also part of Egypt’s intensive diplomatic efforts and broad coordination with international actors aimed at halting the deepening crisis in the enclave.
The statement confirmed that “four military transport planes took off from the Arab Republic of Egypt, loaded with tons of food aid, to carry out airdrop operations over areas inaccessible by land inside Gaza.” The goal, it said, was to ease the population’s severe living conditions and address acute shortages in humanitarian supplies. Ground aid deliveries continue in parallel, according to the statement.
The spokesperson added that the initiative is part of Egypt’s sustained efforts to deliver thousands of tons of aid in collaboration with friendly and allied nations. Egyptian assistance accounts for nearly 80% of all aid dispatched since the crisis began, he said.
