Liu Jian, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Libya, stated that China and Libya share a common historical experience of suffering, colonialism, and struggle for national independence.
In an article published to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, he added that the traditional friendship between the two countries grows stronger with time. He noted that Libya’s 1971 vote in favor of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 serves as a strong foundation for bilateral relations.
Liu Jian pointed out that China appreciates Libya’s continued support for the “One China” principle. He affirmed his country’s commitment to defending Libya’s legitimate rights and interests in international forums and supporting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. China will continue to back a Libyan-led political process. He also confirmed that China will continue to cooperate with Libya through the China-Arab and African Cooperation Forum and the Belt and Road Initiative, contributing to development and reconstruction. This will bolster the strategic partnership between the two countries.
