Abdelsalam Zoubi, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense in Libya’s Government of National Unity, has met with the European Union’s ambassador to the country, Nicola Orlando, to discuss recent security developments.
In a post on the social media platform X, Orlando reiterated the EU’s call for all Libyan parties to resolve disputes peacefully through dialogue. He emphasised the importance of working with the Security and Military Arrangements Committee (SMAC) and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to de-escalate tensions and prevent any potential threats to civilians.
Orlando added that he and Zoubi had agreed to continue joint efforts to uphold human rights and international standards regarding migration and border management. He also urged the relevant authorities to verify the facts and assign responsibility for recent maritime search and rescue incidents.
