Ministry of Electricity: Achievements Facing Challenges with LDRF Support

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies continues its intensive efforts to restore power to areas suffering from outages by implementing a series of diverse repairs and projects. These efforts are fully supported by Engineer Balqassem Haftar, the Director General of Libya’s Development and Reconstruction Fund (LDRF), under the direct supervision of Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energies, Awad Al-Badri.

33 Tasks in 5 Days: Emergency Efforts to Support the Grid

The Ministry reported that its Emergency Committee for Grid Stability was able to complete 33 tasks in just five days from the start of its work. These tasks included both emergency repairs to address urgent faults and the implementation of development projects aimed at supporting and improving the grid’s stability. The work performed involved addressing scattered faults on main and subsidiary lines, installing new equipment and transformers to enhance network capacity, and carrying out developmental projects to raise the efficiency of electrical performance in several regions. The Ministry confirmed that work is proceeding at an accelerated pace, 24 hours a day, to ensure all problems are addressed and full grid stability is restored, meeting citizens’ needs and supporting the path of reconstruction and development.

Jalo Station Fire Controlled and Service Restored

In a separate incident, Minister of Electricity Awad Al-Badri issued urgent and strict instructions to maintenance crews to head immediately to the city of Jalo, supported by all necessary supplies and reinforcements, to control the situation and ensure a rapid return of service. This followed a sudden fire that broke out in transformer cell No. 3 at the Jalo station, with a voltage of 220/30 kV, which caused part of the cables to ignite. Immediately after the incident, the Eastern Regional Control Room took swift action by shutting down transformers No. 1 and 2 and completely isolating the station’s power supply to preserve the safety of the remaining components and allow firefighting teams to deal with the blaze safely and quickly. The fire was brought under control and extinguished, with repair work beginning immediately under the Minister’s direct supervision. The teams successfully restarted transformer No. 2 and reconnected the vital feeders: 163 No. 2 + Al-Cinema + transformer No. 5. The Ministry confirmed that work is ongoing at an accelerated pace to gradually restore the rest of the loads, while taking all necessary technical measures to ensure network stability.

Projects to End Protracted Outages

Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar: In another context, maintenance crews from the Al-Abrag Electricity Department, part of the Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar Electricity Distribution, successfully installed a new 300 kVA transformer in the Bu Waqfa residential area. The fault in the old transformer had caused a power outage for ten consecutive days before the teams, with logistical and technical support from LDRF, were able to complete the installation in record time and restore power to the residents.
Similarly, maintenance teams from the Shahat Electricity Distribution Department, also part of Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar Electricity Distribution, installed a new 300 kVA transformer in the Abu Humaidin neighbourhood in the city of Shahat. This ended the suffering of residents who had endured a complete power outage for nearly three months. The neighbourhood’s residents expressed their deep gratitude to LDRF and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies for providing the necessary support that returned their daily lives to normal after a long struggle.

Ongoing Repairs and Future Commitments

Furthermore, the Ministry reported that maintenance crews have completed work on repairing a fault in cable 1102 at the Al-Oruba station, which restored electricity to the Al-Oruba, Arz Azwawa, Sidi Younis, and part of the North Club areas after 24 hours of continuous work. The Ministry affirms that it is proceeding with its plan to improve the power grid in various cities and regions, ensuring a stable and safe service for citizens.
