The National Committee for Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing, chaired by the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Muhammad Issa, held its regular meeting in Tripoli to follow up on critical preparations for the evaluation process. This meeting comes as part of Libya’s preparations for the third round of evaluation it will undergo from the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF).
Discussions focused on the follow-up of previous committee decisions, in addition to reviewing the questionnaire for the periodic update model and finalizing the timeline for the upcoming evaluation process.
Furthermore, the latest developments regarding the draft law on combating money laundering and terrorism financing, which is currently before the legislative authority, were reviewed. This legislative step is considered fundamental to ensuring compliance with international standards and protecting the national economy, in anticipation of any potential repercussions from a possible failure in the evaluation.
