Al-Ahly Tripoli, the African basketball champion, is set to depart for Singapore to take part in the Basketball Club World Cup, which kicks off on Thursday.
The Libyan team finished its final preparations Sunday evening in Tunis, under the supervision of coach Mohamed El-Kordani, who led a closed training camp featuring friendly matches aimed at enhancing the players’ physical and technical readiness ahead of the tournament.
Al-Ahly Tripoli will begin its campaign with a tough group-stage match against Spain’s Unicaja Málaga, the European champion, and will conclude its fixtures by facing Japan’s Utsunomiya Brex, the Asian representative.
This year’s edition features six teams:
Al-Ahly Tripoli (Libya), representing Africa.
Unicaja Málaga (Spain), representing Europe.
Utsunomiya Brex (Japan), representing Asia.
Stockton Kings (USA) representing North America.
Flamengo (Brazil), representing South America.
and the Illawarra Hawks (Australia) representing Oceania.
Al-Ahly Tripoli is the first Libyan club to compete in the Basketball Club World Cup.
