On the sidelines of launching new family-focused social initiatives, Ulrika Richardson, Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator in Libya, met with the Minister of Social Affairs and the State Minister for Women of the Government of National Unity. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen social services aimed at enhancing the lives of children, women, and men nationwide.
Discussions highlighted the development of social protection programs, including initiatives to support persons with disabilities, with particular attention to young people, to help integrate them into the labor market and expand their opportunities.
The talks also addressed women’s participation in public life. Richardson stressed the importance of women’s role in politics and the need to enhance their presence in decision-making positions. She welcomed the election of the first woman mayor in Libya, describing it as a milestone achievement and a significant step forward in advancing women’s empowerment.
