Libya and Italy Prepare to Sign Marine Cooperation Agreement

Libya’s Ministry of Marine Resources, under the Government of National Unity, held talks with the Italian Embassy in Tripoli to review the draft memorandum of understanding set to be signed between the two sides.

The meeting took place at the ministry’s headquarters, where Minister Adel Sultan and the Director of International Cooperation welcomed Italian Ambassador Gianluca Alberini, accompanied by Commercial Attaché Fabio Giocchi and Nicola Giacalone, Director of Medina S.p.A.

Key Areas of Cooperation
Discussions focused on the proposed areas of collaboration outlined in the draft agreement, including:

  • Training programs and capacity building
  • Joint scientific research and exchange of expertise
  • Support for fish processing centers in line with approved standards
  • Strengthening marketing channels and facilitating access of Libyan seafood products to European markets
  • Follow-up on the EU Number file related to Libyan marine exports

Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing coordination between their respective technical teams to ensure effective implementation of these initiatives.

Commitment to Sovereignty and Legal Frameworks
The Ministry of Marine Resources emphasized that all cooperation will be conducted strictly within the framework of national laws and international obligations, in a manner that safeguards Libya’s sovereignty
