On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty met with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani to discuss developments in Libya and bilateral relations.
Joint Diplomatic Efforts on Libya
During the meeting, Abdel Aaty emphasized the importance of continuing international efforts to advance Libya’s political process, calling for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to be held as soon as possible. He also stressed the need for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory, describing it as essential to fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people for sovereignty and stability.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
The Egyptian minister praised the strategic relationship between Cairo and Rome, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to deepening cooperation—especially given both countries’ pivotal roles in the Mediterranean region and the growing need for joint coordination in light of regional and global challenges.
