As part of national efforts to address migration and ensure safe repatriation, Libya organized the voluntary return of 175 Somali nationals in coordination with the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Coordinated Travel Route
The operation began on Monday with a domestic flight from Mitiga International Airport to Sabha Airport, followed by a late-night international flight to Mogadishu International Airport carrying the returning migrants.
Security Oversight and Institutional Cooperation
The repatriation was closely monitored by the General Directorate of Border Security, with tight supervision from security agencies in Sabha, who overcame logistical challenges to ensure the mission’s success.
Sabha Airport witnessed extensive coordination among the Port Security Directorate, military and security units, the Customs Center, the Southern Illegal Migration Control Authority, Buraq Airlines, Al‑Jisr Ground Services, and airport management—resulting in a smooth and well-organized operation.
Humanitarian and International Commitment
The Ministry of Interior affirmed that this initiative reflects Libya’s humanitarian and international obligations in managing voluntary returns, while also safeguarding national security and projecting a positive image of its security institutions
