The Libyan national wheelchair basketball team is in full preparation mode as they head to South Africa for the upcoming Africa Championship, set to kick off on the 3rd of this month. The team recently wrapped up their intensive training camp at the Tripoli Grand Hall, where they honed their skills under the leadership of national coach Mansour Al-Maqsabi and his assistant, Mustafa Abustin.
The team’s first match will pit them against Kenya this Thursday, marking the start of their journey to the championship. The tournament will see participation from six competitive teams, including Kenya, Liberia, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the host nation, South Africa.
A major incentive for the teams is the coveted prize awaiting the champion: a qualification spot in the Under-23 World Championship, which will be held in São Paulo, Brazil, in June of this year.
