The Libyan U23 wheelchair basketball team has made history by qualifying for the semifinals of the “NUB Africa” African Championship. They crushed their Liberian counterpart with a score of 87-6 in a dominant match from start to finish. This victory brings them closer to securing a spot in the 2025 World Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Libyan team was in control from the opening whistle, establishing a commanding lead in the first quarter with a score of 28-2. They continued their offensive and defensive pressure, finishing the second quarter with a 45-4 lead. The second half was no different, with the third quarter ending 67-4, before they sealed their victory in the final quarter. This was the biggest win of the tournament so far.
The match was attended by the President of the Libyan Paralympic Committee, Mr. Khaled Al-Rubaibi, and the Treasurer, Mr. Nouri Abdul Wahid, as well as representatives of the General Authority for the Sports Support Fund, indicating official support for Paralympic sports.
In the semifinals, the Libyan team will face the top team from the other group next Tuesday in a crucial match to secure qualification for the African final.
