The Embassy of Sudan in Libya announced the successful release of 89 Sudanese who had been detained in Libyan holding centers. The release took place on Saturday, the 15th, through coordination between the embassy’s Prison Committee and Libya’s Illegal Immigration Combat Authority (Ghout Al-Shaal).
On March 12, the embassy addressed rumors circulating on social media about Libyan authorities planning targeted arrests of illegal immigrants. It clarified that any measures against illegal immigrants apply to all nationalities, not exclusively Sudanese, and emphasized that such actions fall within the Libyan government’s legal mandate to regulate irregular migration.
The embassy reiterated that the Libyan government treats Sudanese citizens as “honored guests” due to Sudan’s current exceptional circumstances, offering them facilitations not extended to other undocumented migrants. It urged Sudanese community leaders to educate citizens on:
– Respecting Libyan laws, customs, and traditions.
– Avoiding public gatherings unless necessary.
– Limiting non-essential movement.
– Upholding neighbors’ rights and avoiding harm to others.
