The exchange rate of the US dollar against the Libyan dinar witnessed a notable increase in the black market during trading on Tuesday, specifically concerning transactions involving the 50 dinar banknote denomination. At 3:00 PM, the dollar reached a price of 7.50 dinars in Tripoli, while it recorded 7.52 dinars in Benghazi.
This surge represents an increase of 200 dirhams compared to the exchange rate when dealing with other regular denominations of the local currency. Meanwhile, the dollar also continued its upward trend when trading smaller denominations of the Libyan currency, namely the 5, 10, and 20 dinar banknotes, reaching a price of 7.30 dinars per dollar in both Tripoli and Benghazi.
On another note, the Central Bank of Libya had stated at the beginning of this week, reminding citizens of the previous decision regarding the discontinuation of transactions involving the 50 dinar banknote denomination, which is scheduled to take effect starting from the thirtieth of April of this year.
