The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, Hana Tetteh, met yesterday with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaibah to address the latest developments and updates on the Libyan and regional fronts, in addition to continuing joint coordination between the two parties to support and enhance stability in the country.
The meeting covered a review of the outcomes of consultations conducted by the Special Representative of the Secretary-General at both the local and regional levels, as well as the progress made in the work of the Libyan Advisory Committee, an assessment of the current security situation in Libya, and discussions on the issue of irregular migration and its repercussions, alongside recent measures related to the adjustment of the Libyan Dinar’s exchange rate and their potential impacts.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity emphasized the importance of unifying all efforts exerted to control and rationalize public spending in the country, calling on the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to provide the necessary support for these national efforts, given their pivotal role and significant importance in promoting sustainable financial and economic stability in the country. For her part, Tetteh commended the constructive and fruitful cooperation demonstrated by the Government of National Unity with UNSMIL, stressing that achieving tangible improvement in the country’s economic performance represents an indispensable fundamental pillar for achieving long-term stability in Libya. After the meeting, both sides agreed on the importance of continuing and deepening close cooperation between the GNU and the United Nations, to support the political and economic process in the country, leading to the holding of general elections that will end the current transitional phase and enhance stability in Libya.
