Agricultural authorities in Sirte and the southern regions of Libya have announced the start of the wheat and barley harvest season, marking the first success of agricultural projects that were resumed after more than ten years.
This initiative is part of the National Development Authority’s efforts to revitalize strategic agricultural projects. The past few months have witnessed comprehensive infrastructure rehabilitation, the provision of modern agricultural inputs, and the implementation of integrated crop care programs.
Officials at the Authority explained that this project primarily aims to enhance food security by increasing the volume of local production of staple grains, with a particular focus on adopting advanced technologies in irrigation and agricultural pest control. This achievement is a first step within a broader plan aimed at expanding the implementation of farm projects in other regions of Libya, in an attempt to reduce dependence on imports and enhance advanced agricultural capabilities and expertise locally.
