The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in the Government of National Unity, Mr. Taher Al-Ba’our, received a phone call this evening from His Excellency Dr. Fuad Hussein, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq.
The conversation between the two sides addressed ways to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation between the State of Libya and the Republic of Iraq in various fields of mutual interest, reflecting the depth of the historical ties that bind the two brotherly countries, while emphasizing the importance of exploring broader horizons for future partnership between them.
During the call, views were also exchanged on the arrangements and procedures necessary for holding meetings of the Libyan-Iraqi Joint Committee as soon as possible, and activating the provisions of the bilateral agreements signed between the two countries in various sectors.
On the regional issues front, the two ministers reviewed the latest developments in the besieged Gaza Strip, where they affirmed the firm and unified stance supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian cause, and called on the Arab and international community to redouble efforts to stop the ongoing military escalation and ensure the protection of innocent civilians.
They stressed the urgent need to facilitate the immediate and safe delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to the Strip, and to support all initiatives aimed at reaching a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees all the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions. In another context, the two sides touched on the ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit scheduled to be held in Iraq during the upcoming month of May, emphasizing the utmost importance of coordination and joint consultation between the two countries to ensure the summit’s success and enhance the course of joint Arab action.
