The Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, Mohammed Al-Hawaij, held a meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Guven Begec, during which they discussed prospects for enhancing joint cooperation between the two countries, organizing trade movement, and working to increase the volume of bilateral trade.
A statement issued by the Ministry on Thursday mentioned that the meeting, which took place in Tripoli, primarily addressed the initial arrangements related to the anticipated visit of the Turkish Minister of Trade to Libya during the upcoming period, to improve and develop economic relations between the two countries.
Minister Al-Hawaij and Ambassador Begec discussed the most important axes and topics that will be presented and discussed with the Turkish side during the Trade Minister’s visit, the most prominent of which are the agriculture, trade, and industry sectors, while emphasizing the importance of full coordination with the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the achievement of the desired objectives of this important visit. It is worth noting that Libya imported various goods from the Turkey in 2024 with a total value of approximately 2.5 billion US dollars, which made Libya rank third among the African countries that import the most goods from the Turkish market during the past year.
