The State of Libya, in its capacity as the current chair of the Arab Group for April, presided over the meeting of the Deputy Permanent Representatives of the Arab States held in New York City. The meeting witnessed the active participation of representatives from the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, in addition to a number of experts and specialists on Syrian affairs.
The meeting was chaired on behalf of the Libyan side by Mr. Essam Mohamed El-Gaffah, the Political Coordinator and Deputy Representative of the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations. During the meeting, the attendees held an in-depth discussion on the comprehensive UN strategic assessment of the current situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, along with the latest developments and political changes the country has recently witnessed, as well as exploring the prospects for the future political landscape in Syria.
It is expected that the findings and recommendations resulting from this assessment will be submitted in a comprehensive report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations by the end of May 2025. This step comes within the framework of the continuous efforts undertaken by the United Nations to monitor and analyze the situation in the region and assess it accurately to plan appropriate future steps.
