Through a post on the “X” platform, the UN envoy to Libya, Hana Tetteh, clarified that achieving successful elections in Libya necessitates a strong political will among Libyan parties to agree on a clear and specific roadmap.
Tetteh had called, during her first briefing to the UN Security Council on Libya since assuming her duties last February, for the development of a “consensual roadmap” aimed at resolving the ongoing political crisis in the country and completing the current transitional phase. She emphasized the need to integrate elections within a comprehensive political framework that contributes to strengthening the building of the new Libyan state.
In a related context, Tetteh announced that the UN mission fully supports the work of the Advisory Committee tasked with developing practical options to address the contentious electoral issues hindering progress towards holding elections. She indicated that she expects the committee to present its report, which includes proposals for applicable solutions, by the end of the current month.
