A Roadmap or an Attempt to Preempt the Outcomes of the Advisory Committee?

A Roadmap or an Attempt to Preempt the Outcomes of the Advisory Committee?

By: Hussein Al-Masallati

109 former parliamentarians, politicians, and activists have issued a proposal outlining what they described as a “realistic and logical roadmap” to resolve the current political crisis. However, the detailes of this roadmap raises serious questions about its motives and timing.
The proposal, which at first glance appears to support the political process, hides within its lines an attempt to preempt the outcomes of the Advisory Committee and exert indirect pressure on it, despite the superficial praise for its role.
While the proposal emphasizes national consensus, it puts forth a path that lacks such consensus. The most prominent example of this is the call for holding parliamentary elections first, disregarding the reasons for the failure of this option in the past.
More critically, this proposal reflects a clear bias towards one party over another through the inclusion of phrases not devoid of prejudice, undermining any claim of neutrality or an effort to bridge the divide between the conflicting sides.
Despite its claim of realism, the proposal deliberately ignores one of the biggest obstacles to any political solution: the security file. The proposal contains no vision or concept for dealing with the security vacuum, which represents the most significant challenge to the state regaining its sovereign function and ensuring any electoral process is conducted in a safe and stable environment.
Based on the foregoing, this proposal is nothing more than a new attempt to recycle failed experiments and impose them as a fait accompli on political actors, at a time when the scene needs de-escalation and the prevalence of consensus over narrow interests.
