A detailed statistical report issued by the Anti-Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Agency has revealed the registration of a total of 351 criminal cases related to the distribution, consumption, and importation of narcotics and psychotropic substances spanning the period from January 1st to March 31st, 2025. These cases involved 550 suspects who have already been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the necessary legal proceedings, while an additional 9 suspects remain wanted by justice.
The agency’s statistical report clarified that drug distribution cases constituted the largest proportion, with 199 cases directly involving 299 suspects. Following in second place were drug consumption cases, totaling 140 cases and involving 225 suspects. Cases related to the importation and smuggling of narcotics across borders accounted for 12 cases, with 17 suspects implicated.
Regarding the types of narcotics and psychotropic substances seized during this period, cannabis-related cases topped the list, with 238 cases involving 354 suspects. Next were cases involving narcotic and hallucinogenic tablets, amounting to 97 cases and involving 166 suspects. Additionally, 4 cases related to the seizure of cocaine were recorded, along with 12 cases involving the confiscation of various types of alcoholic beverages.
The quantities of seized cannabis amounted to approximately 359 kilograms, in addition to 276 pieces of varying sizes of the same substance, and relatively small amounts of marijuana and weed.
The agency’s personnel also managed to seize and confiscate significant quantities of hallucinogenic tablets, exceeding 278,000 tablets, along with approximately 15.6 kilograms of highly dangerous cocaine. In terms of alcohol, over 70,000 liters of locally produced liquor were confiscated, in addition to 196 liters of imported liquor.
Financially, the total estimated value of the narcotics, psychotropic substances, and alcohol seized during the first quarter of the current year amounted to approximately 40.5 million Libyan dinars. This financial value was distributed as follows: around 5.3 million dinars worth of seized cannabis, approximately 9.7 million dinars worth of narcotic and hallucinogenic tablets, nearly 5.4 million dinars worth of confiscated cocaine, in addition to 19.6 million dinars worth of local liquor, and 245,000 dinars worth of imported liquor. Regarding classifying the arrested suspects in these cases, the number of Libyan suspects reached 453, in addition to 28 foreigners and 69 suspects of Arab nationalities. These statistics included the involvement of 8 women in drug-related cases, while the total number of male suspects reached 542.
