In a groundbreaking operation marking a historic first for the African continent, Libyan Airlines successfully initiated the land transport of an aircraft. The ambitious undertaking commenced this morning at Benina International Airport in Benghazi, with the aircraft en route to the military city in Qaminis.
This is happening for the first time in the African continent, as it demands meticulous technical and logistical coordination. Specialized teams comprising accomplished engineers, skilled technicians, and seasoned drivers are collaborating in a synchronized effort to ensure the aircraft’s transit adheres to the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
This significant step aligns with a plan to advance Libya’s civil aviation infrastructure by enhancing the sector’s technical and logistical capabilities. This initiative reflects national aspirations for a transformative leap forward in air transport.
Notably, in September 2024, Saudi Arabia undertook a similar operation, transporting Boeing 777-200ER aircrafts approximately 1000 km by road from Jeddah to Riyadh, which was part of the Riyadh Season events. The aircrafts were repurposed as prominent entertainment attractions within the “Boulevard Runway” zone.
