The International Organization for Migration (IOM) organized and facilitated the voluntary return of 191 migrants, including 111 women, who were stranded in Sabha in southern Libya, enabling their safe return to their original destination in Lagos, Nigeria. This operation is part of the support provided by the European Union’s program for the protection, return, and reintegration of migrants in the North Africa region.
In a related context, the Anti-illegal Immigration Agency, in an exclusive statement to Almanassa, revealed the deportation of another group comprising 407 Nigerian illegal migrants.
Colonel Ahmed Abu Qaila, the official spokesperson for the agency, explained that this deportation process commenced from the agency’s branch stationed in Sabha, passing through the vital Doum land border crossing, and reaching the Madama international border crossing. These steps were carried out in the implementation of direct instructions issued by the head of the agency and under the field supervision of the commander of the southern region. Colonel Abu Qaila emphasized that this operation is an integral part of a continuous series of procedures and strategies adopted by the agency with the primary goal of reducing the exacerbation of the phenomenon of illegal immigration and its repercussions..
