The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) convened a consultative meeting. With representatives from the Defense and National Security Committee of the House of Representatives, as well as officials from the Military Public Prosecutor’s Office, the aim of resume a new round of in-depth consultations on ways to develop and modernize the existing security legislation system.
This meeting witnessed a joint reaffirmation of the importance of moving forward with diligent steps in the constructive discussions aimed at a comprehensive update of the matrix of legislation closely related to the security sector in Libya. This update comes in response to the current changes the country is witnessing and the emerging security challenges that require more effective and comprehensive legal frameworks. Furthermore, during the meeting, UNSMIL provided the attendees with a detailed overview of the initiatives being implemented to support Libyan national security efforts related to securing the upcoming electoral process, by enhancing the state’s capabilities in the field of border security and combating cross-border threats, in addition to effectively addressing extremism and illegal migration, as well as the importance of combating the spread of misinformation and disinformation that undermines social stability.
