The Advisory Committee yesterday presented its final report to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), outlining options and recommendations to address key sticking points within the existing electoral framework. This move is a significant step towards establishing a consensual political roadmap leading to national elections and the unification of the country’s institutions.
UNSMIL expressed its gratitude to the committee members for their professionalism and dedication in preparing the report. The mission affirmed that it would, in the coming days, commence a series of consultations with relevant Libyan parties and various components of society to study the proposed options and assess their alignment with the aspirations of the Libyan people.

In a commitment to transparency, UNSMIL intends to publish the executive summary of the report. This will form
the basis for a consensual political roadmap, drawing upon the report’s findings to facilitate the holding of elections and support an inclusive, Libyan-owned and Libyan-led solution.
The Advisory Committee was formed under paragraphs (2) and (5) of UN Security Council Resolution 2755 (2024) and comprises 20 experienced Libyan figures with legal, constitutional, and electoral expertise, including 35% women. UNSMIL will continue to draw upon its expertise in the subsequent stages of the process.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya reiterated its commitment to continue working with all Libyan parties, with the support of the international community, to advance the political process in a manner that safeguards stability and addresses the current challenges facing the country.
