American oilfield services giant Weatherford has announced its full-scale return to operations in Libya, marking the end of a hiatus stretching over a decade. The move signals a potential boost for Libya’s energy sector and reflects a growing confidence among international players in the country’s stability.

The announcement came during a meeting in Tripoli between Masoud Suleiman, chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), and Weatherford’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Richard Ward. Ward conveyed the company’s intention to recommence its activities and provide its technical and technological expertise to Libyan oil companies. He further revealed that Weatherford has already established its new operational base in Hay Al-Andalus district of Tripoli.
Ward confirmed Weatherford’s preparedness to deliver on-the-ground services at Jalu 59 oilfield as an initial step in a broader strategy to expand its footprint within the country.
