The United Nations Support Mission in Libya has voiced grave concern regarding the escalating intensity of clashes involving heavy weaponry within densely populated civilian areas of the capital, Tripoli, cautioning that the continued targeting of civilians and infrastructure could constitute war crimes.
The mission called upon all parties to implement an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing the critical importance of full adherence to the protection of civilians and the imperative to refrain from endangering their lives under any circumstances.
The mission affirmed its unwavering support for the efforts of elders and leaders to de-escalate the situation and contain tensions, as part of the endeavor to avert further escalation and safeguard innocent lives.
