In a meeting on Sunday morning, Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed al-Menfi met with United Nations envoy Hannah Tetteh to discuss the latest developments in Libya’s political landscape and explore ways to enhance coordination. The discussion focused on supporting an inclusive and sustainable political process toward stability.
During the meeting, they reviewed the latest developments related to the Libyan file, with particular attention paid to human rights, the independence of the House of Representatives, and the legal status and neutrality of Emad al-Sayeh, chairman of the High National Elections Commission, as well as the commission’s commitment to constitutional and legal requirements.
Tetteh provided al-Menfi with a detailed overview of the outcomes and recommendations of the Advisory Committee of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). She emphasized the importance of Libyan institutions leading the political process, as they hold sovereignty and decision-making power.
Al-Menfi expressed his full support for all UN initiatives that have Libyan national ownership and are based on the consensus of the five institutions from the political agreement, in accordance with the UN Security Council’s plan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, al-Menfi stressed his intention to inform the Libyan people of the outcomes and recommendations of the Advisory Committee through a broad public consultation to allow all Libyans to express their views on these important outcomes.
