Following a night of intense clashes in Tripoli that resulted in casualties, fear among residents, and property damage, the security apparatus of the Government of National Unity issued a series of statements aimed at reassuring the public of their efforts to establish control.
Amid the fighting, the Interior Ministry of the GNU sought to reassure residents in the southern and western parts of the capital, stating that it was closely monitoring the escalating situation. The ministry asserted that its forces were moving to regain full control and were working to impose security and contain the volatile environment.
Separately, the Interior Ministry of the Libyan government reported its close attention to the unfolding security developments in Tripoli. Expressing deep concern over the rising tensions and rapid events on the ground, which threatened civilian safety and property, the ministry urged all citizens to exercise maximum vigilance, remain indoors, and avoid areas of unrest to protect themselves and their families. It also called for full cooperation with instructions from security agencies.
As the night of violence unfolded, the Defense Ministry GNU declared its military operation a success. It issued directives to continue its security plan in the affected area to ensure lasting security and stability, firmly stating that it had achieved full control over Abu Salim district, the center of the clashes.
In the aftermath of the latest security crisis, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the Ministries of Defense and Interior for their efforts. He lauded their performance, stating:
“I extend my appreciation to the Ministries of Interior and Defense, and all the members of the army and police, for the significant achievement they have accomplished in establishing security and enforcing the rule of law in the capital.” Dbeibah added, “This important achievement unequivocally confirms that the state’s regular institutions are fully capable of protecting the nation and safeguarding the dignity of its citizens. It represents a step towards ending the presence of outlaw groups, there is no place except for the legitimate institutions of the state, and no authority above the authority of the law.”
