Libyan House of Representatives member Asmahan Belaoun has engaged in discussions with the European Union on strengthening institutional cooperation and partnership. Belaoun participated in the “Europe Day” celebration in Tripoli, themed “Libya and Europe: A Partnership of Opportunities,” where she met with Irene Chicarrelli, the Political Affairs Officer at the EU Delegation to Libya.
The meeting involved a constructive dialogue focusing on expanding the scope of partnership and joint coordination between Libya and the European Union. Discussions were framed by the principles of international law and international humanitarian law, and built upon mutual respect and shared interests.
A key emphasis during the exchange was the importance of consolidating transparency and integrity, alongside activating the oversight role of the Libyan House of Representatives in monitoring and evaluating cooperation programmes. Belaoun and Chicarrelli also explored developing effective and sustainable channels for institutional communication, including the exchange of information and expertise to support joint projects that benefit both parties and contribute to development and stability in Libya.
