The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for Libya, Hannah Tetteh, and her esteemed Deputy, Stephanie Koury, held an extensive meeting yesterday, Thursday, with a group of elders and dignitaries from Tripoli and several other cities located in the western region, including Zintan, Zawiya, Misrata, and Jadu.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the diligent and ongoing mediation efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in the capital, Tripoli, following the recently announced truce. The participants who came from outside Tripoli, presented their joint initiatives and the efforts they are undertaking in coordination with the elders of Tripoli to ensure an effective and successful mediation process and the achievement of their desired objectives.
The SRSG for Libya welcomed the positive and constructive role played by these elders and dignitaries in de-escalating the escalating tensions and fostering constructive dialogue between the various parties involved, and expressed her full and continued support for these sincere endeavours.
